Both classical and contemporary ethnographies touch upon issues of mobility in various cultures. Classical anthropological texts described in great detail the economic, ecological and social circulation of people and objects. More recently, science and technology studies, ethnographies of the new kinship, media studies, studies of tourism, ethnographies of infrastructure helped increase our understanding of circulation knowledge, substance, people and nature in the contemporary cultural dynamics. Similarly, studies of refugees, humanitarian aid, citizenship, prisonfare and transnationalism described situations of forced immobility in various parts of the world. Our conference seeks to open up the ethnographic studies of mobility and immobility to new questions. We seek papers that broadly touch upon these issues in a variety of ethnographic contexts.

This year, the conference is organized together with and hosted by internationally acclaimed Astra Film Festival, which celebrates its 20th anniversary (http://www.astrafilm.ro/news.aspx).
